TRAINING RATIONALE
My training rationale is based on developing a well balanced athlete through dynamic flexibility, balance, core stability and power in the prime movers of the golf swing. My goal as a trainer is to develop a specific program that addresses the physical limitations of the golfer that lead to swing faults. My goal as a therapist is to correct any physical imbalance that can lead to an injury. I truly believe that any limitation in mobility or stability in the body can alter good athletic mechanics and lead to poor performance, inconsistency and possible injury. I assess clients with a functional movement screen developed by TPI. During the assessment I look for incorrect movement patterns. I also work directly with the client's golf teaching professional to gain an understanding of the particular swing faults that have been found. The information from the teaching pro and the findings of the physical assessment allow me to develop a program that will improve either mobility or stability in the deficient areas. The results will be seen and felt as the golfer has improved balance, flexibility and power during the golf swing.
As a functional trainer, I am not bound by any one piece of equipment or facility. I can travel to your home, office, or gym (if permitted by the facility). I utilize stability balls, resistive bands, dumbbells, suspension training, golf-specific equipment, and, most importantly, body weight training to achieve improved performance. As a physical therapist I am well aware of the importance of training for injury prevention and I am also prepared to assist in your full recovery through post-rehabilitation programs. I focus on exercises that improve you by addressing your specific problem areas, not by prescribing the "exercise of the week" as some trainers do.
